Ulcerative Colitis – Tips when leaving the house

For most people, who have just recently been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, you know it’s a life changing disease, to say the least.

Many people can fall into depression easily. Other people can start to develop anxiety or feeling overwhelmed at all times.  And you have every right to feel like this, after all, Ulcerative Colitis can be painful, embarrassing, but mostly debilitating and unpredictable, which is not easy to handle.

One of the most common things that people say they are not comfortable doing anymore, is the simple fact of going out and leaving their home. They just want to stay home all the time…They are completely scared to leave their comfort zone.

Whether it’s going out to the supermarket, a movie theater, a dinner with friends, a baseball game, a party, etc, people worry they’ll have horrible accidents, be humiliated or embarrassed.  They don’t want to be seen going to the bathroom unexpectedly or too often in a small amount of time.

So people just stop hanging out with friends and even family. They stay at home all the time, and decide not to socialize anymore.  They just say good bye to their social life forever, which for many people is a large part of their life.  Who doesn’t enjoy going to meet with dear friends and family and spend quality time together?

Well, closing yourself off from the outside world leads to depression and lots of negative feelings, like anger, sadness, sorrow, loneliness, disappointment, and anxiety to name a few.  And the worst part, is that when a person has emotional stress, the symptoms of having Ulcerative Colitis can get even worse.

But there’s no need to give up, friend. First, did you know that almost 1 million people suffer from Ulcerative Colitis?  So know that you are definitely not alone, and there are many support groups where you can meet and talk to people who are suffering from this same disease.  All of which are going through the same symptoms and feelings as you are.

Here are some positive suggestions on how you can start living life all over again, without feeling miserable!  You won’t have to miss out on all the fun or any special event in your family and friends’ lives.

1. Going to the supermarket:

Make a list at home, so you can shop faster in a more efficient way. Nowadays, you can even place an order online, meaning you don’t have to spend 30min. or an hr. walking around the grocery store, and just pick it up when it’s ready. This is very convenient!

2. Going to the movies:

•Grab seats that are on the aisle and sit on the aisle seat. You’ll feel more comfortable if/when you have to get up and go to the restroom.

You can also host a movie night in the comfort of your own home or maybe have a movie night at a friend’s.

•Stay away from the popcorn and pizza which most likely will be served. Bring a few healthy snacks for you, that others can enjoy as well, or simply tell your friends, that you are not feeling too well, so these are “your snacks”, but you brought pizza and cake for everybody else.

3. Dining out:

•Before having your friend’s determine a restaurant to go to, look at the menu online first and see if it’s a good fit for you.  If it is, then take the time to read what plates can work with you, so you don’t feel rushed to make a decision as you are seated at the restaurant. If by chance that restaurant doesn’t have anything on their menu good for you, then don’t feel bad to check out 2-3 other places, whose menu suits you best, and have your friends pick from these new options.

•Eat something you are used to eating, and that you and your body feel comfortable with, right before meeting your friend at the restaurant. This will allow you to choose a light meal from the menu, and not be so hungry, while having an enjoyable dining experience.

•Feel free to call the restaurant and ask questions about menu options. Many times, restaurants can accommodate changes, at no extra charge, for substituting this for that, as long as they offer it on their menu. For instance, the grilled chicken comes with fries, but you can always ask if they can serve you cooked vegetables instead.

•Eat smaller portions, like appetizers, as these are considered a good size. Avoid “super-sized” portions that might make you feel unwell.  However, you can eat half or 1/3 of that super-sized portion, then just take the rest home.

•Definitely, stay away from foods that don’t agree with you. Greasy or fried foods are common triggers for many people with Ulcerative Colitis.

4. Going to a baseball game or event:

•Don’t forget to get aisle seats!

•Eat a light meal you are used to eating and that you and your body are comfortable with, right before going to the game.

•Take water and snacks that you are also comfortable eating. Many events will do the exemption of allowing you to bring in healthy food/snacks IF you suffer from a medical condition and cannot eat any of the stuff they sell.

•If they don’t allow you to bring in your water, their food stands do sell it.

•When you enter the event, be sure to check where the nearest 2 bathrooms are.

5. Going to a wedding or a party

Follow almost the same rules as going to a restaurant, game or event:

•Eat a light meal you are used to eating and that you and your body are comfortable with, right before going to the event.

•Take snacks that you are also comfortable eating, in case you get a bit hungry and cannot eat any of the food being served.

•If your friend’s daughter is getting married, there’s no need to miss it! You can choose to only attend the ceremony and if you are feeling well, then you can stay for the cocktail hour and reception.

•Ceremonies at a Church usually take 1-1.5 hrs, while ceremonies at hotels, gardens, etc. only take 30 min or less.

•If you only want to attend the ceremony, make sure to greet your friend and then sit all the way towards the back of the Church/Venue, on an aisle seat.

•Be sure to check where are the nearest 2 bathrooms – just in case.

•Stay away from alcohol and other food that won’t help your body feel well.

6. Now, what to do if you have an emergency and there are many people in the bathroom? (Like at a sporting game or restaurant)

•Don’t be shy to flush as many times as needed.

•There’s a small spray that we love called “poopourri”, which easily fits in a purse or pants pocket, and it does wonders!  Read the instructions first, as you have to spray it ON the toilet bowl water, rather than spraying it as a mist in the air.  It’s always good to carry, even if you go to a friend’s home.

We hope that with these awesome tips, you can start saying yes to many fun events in the near future and not like a prisoner in your own home.

Digestinol

Digestinol is an all-natural supplement that helps support and promote digestive health as well as support your immune system. Its biggest benefit is the ability to target and reduce inflammation within your digestive system. Inflammation along your digestive system is one of the main reasons for pain/discomfort associated with digestive disorders. It can help with both constipation as well as diarrhea, because it gets your body back to normal so the amount of fluid in your colon is regulated the way it should be.

What is Digestinol?

Our product contains AMP (Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharides) which is an all-natural molecule found in the aloe vera plant. It is known to enhance the body’s immune system due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. We have a 97-98% success rate reported from people who take Digestinol as directed for 90 days or longer.

If you are not interested in prescription medications to treat your condition and prefer a more natural approach, Digestinol makes all-natural capsules that contain a very specific form of Aloe Polysaccharides to target the inflammation along your digestive tract.

Digestinol – Irritable Bowel Syndrome – IBS – Digestive Disorder – Disgestive Disease – Crohns – Ulcerative Colitis – Colon Cancer – UC

These capsules also provide your body with the nutrients that it is lacking in order to take back control of itself. Digestinol isn’t just Aloe Vera powder, Aloe Vera (contains Aloein) which irritates your digestive system and can cause diarrhea. Digestinol undertakes very specific additional steps in order to remove the Aloein during their extraction process to focus on only the beneficial portions of the Aloe Leaf, the long chain Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccharide molecules.

Since Digestinol is 100% all-natural it doesn’t bring along the side effects that other chemically based prescription medications have. We tell our customers to think of Digestinol as an all-natural digestive system specific vitamin that reduces inflammation and provides your body with specific nutrients that allow it to take back control of itself.

Our Digestinol capsules will also help to balance the good and bad bacteria levels in your body allowing it to regain control of its normal operations.
